What to Expect at Worship
EVERYONE IS WELCOME
to the liturgies at the churches of the Parish.
Believing in the real presence of Christ, all baptized Christians are invited and
welcome to share in the Lord's Supper at liturgies of the Holy Eucharist.
Worship within the Lutheran Church is known as “liturgical worship.”
'Liturgy' originally meant a "public work" or a "service in the name of/on behalf of the people." In Christian tradition, 'liturgy' refers to the participation of God's people in "the work of God." Through the liturgy, we gather as active participants in community to pray and offer ourselves, our time, and our possessions. Simultaneously, Christ Jesus, our Redeemer and High Priest, continues the work of our redemption in, with, and through His Church as the Holy Spirit sanctifies us.
The liturgies of the Parish incorporate the same basic shape for
our worship services that have been used since the early Church.
Many of the words used in the worship liturgy are direct quotations from the Holy Bible.
Readings of Holy Scripture include Old Testament & New Testament readings, a Psalm,
and a reading from one of the four Gospels; following the Revised Common Lectionary schedule.
The liturgy also includes hymnody accompanied by organ and/or piano.
Liturgies are sung and spoken.
